![]() If you're even the slightest bit familiar with this blog you know I am all about the paranormal investigation genre - and Kindred Spirits on TLC is by far the highest recommended on my list (which is saying something, I've seen every episode of Ghost Adventures - twice). So, needless to say, I was more than excited for the second season premier last night, especially when I found out Amy and Adam were going to be investigating the Borden House. Naturally I grabbed my package of pumpkin spice cookies, threw on a sweater, made some tea, and curled up in the darkness of my living room when the clock struck 9. It was worth the wait and I couldn't be happier. If you're unfamiliar with the concept of the show, Kindred Spirits features longtime ghost hunter pros Adam Berry and Amy Bruni on a journey to investigate and help distressed families who believe they are dealing with paranormal phenomenon. It stands out amongst the icons of the genre by showcasing the caring, emotional side of the business while still giving you all the intense, jaw dropping moments of solid proof that fans of the genre crave. It balances emotionally charged moments with historic focused investigations, credible evidence, and a ton of heart, making it a strong competitor for best paranormal show on television. (If you want to know more about the show as a whole, here's my review of season one). So, how did the duo's investigation of the Borden House pan out, and what should we expect from season two going forward? ![]() In the season premier, Amy and Adam are brought to the Borden House to try and help the staff find a way to cope with the darkness not only in the home but in their personal lives as well. The Borden House is infamous for its notorious murders in 1892 but it is perhaps more known in modern times for the odd occurrences within its halls. The loud thumps, the cold spots, the feelings of dread, it's a dark place and one can only imagine how strong the will must be for someone to walk into its halls on a day to day basis just to tell its story. Countless paranormal investigators have stepped foot in its halls to document the happenings, but a lot of times the ones who stay behind get forgotten and swept up in the darkness. It's no wonder they called in Amy and Adam to try and get some peace for the ownership of the home. Sue, the client, is incredibly distressed - you can see it in her eyes and the desperation for help weighs on Amy and Adam to do as thorough of a job as they can. So the duo gets to work, gathering information from their clients, interviewing family and friends, calling in a psychic, and setting up tech to capture everything they can. There are figures that interact and respond to commands, voices that answer questions with recognizable voices, and noises in the night that left the duo speechless. It's not incredibly focused on the evidence in this episode, but it's got just enough of a tease to keep you on the edge of your seat in the midst of the focus on a grieving woman's pain. ![]() It's a very touching and powerful premier, not heavy on the scares but it has some incredibly sentimental moments (including an in memoriam that feels fitting). One can only assume that the rest of the season will just continue to increase in every aspect. It's so easy to become invested in the stories of the clients and by the end of the episode I was nearly in tears from the sharp realism of the show, it's what makes the series so captivating. I have a lot of high hopes for this new season and am eagerly looking forward to next week to see where Kindred Spirits goes next. ![]() Written by Alycia D.
