I'm a sucker for any type of paranormal investigation show. Give me anything with shaky hand-cams, over-the-top reactions, and the smallest possibility of maybe seeing a spec of something go by a night-vision camera and I will be all over it faster than you can blink. It started with Ghost Hunters at a very young age, probably close to ten years ago at this point. Now it's a multi-night, weekly tradition for me to get as many episodes of Ghost Adventures in per a seven day span as I can. Give me your Ghost Adventures/Labs/Asylums/Hunters - give me your parody series like Ghost Provokers and your retellings of the Warren's most notable cases. I don't care how many lame reenactments, faked evidence, or over-the-top jump-scares they throw at me - I'll watch it. So, obviously, it didn't take much more than a small, still-standing advertisement in the corner of a web-page to take notice of a very odd and unexpected little gem called Kindred Spirits. I was instantly intrigued, especially since TLC is the last television station I would ever expect to throw a paranormal show at me, what with being the cable queen of trashy 'everyday life' content that they historically were known to be. So naturally I sat down and loaded up the series premier and was pleasantly surprised at what I discovered. Three episodes later and it's become a much loved part of my weekly routine. I had a feeling that there was going to be something unique about the entirely appropriately named Kindred Spirits when I saw the trailer upon booting up TLC's website (where the episodes are free to stream). I went into it completely blind and was not disappointed. It featured two very prominent former members of the TAPS/Ghost Hunters team; two individuals I respect dearly for their hard-work and honest, loving hearts. I was flooded with nostalgia and joy from seeing these two back at it (and very obviously happy to be doing what they love again). They were always my favorite duo. I began to notice something different with this program right from the beginning few minutes - Kindred Spirits is the most honest, humble, and realistic paranormal show I have seen in a long time and I am hooked. Unbeknownst to me, TLC apparently became the go-to destination for former big time paranormal investigators who wanted to do something more real and honest (Nick Groff, formerly of the GAC, also has his own show as well). I was more than overjoyed at this show by the first commercial break; you could honestly share in the genuine feelings from everyone involved. Bruni and Berry genuinely care about the families they are helping, and their reactions to evidence and research feel more honest and authentic than any other paranormal based show I've ever seen. At times even the lack of evidence was a nice change of pace (as odd as that is to say), you could tell they were growing concerned and bummed out when nothing was happening. Nothing felt faked or exaggerated for TV's sake. It's an incredibly fun and satisfying ride that's equal parts spooky, emotional, and wholehearted in nature. ![]() Berry and Bruni have a combined thirty years of 'ghost hunting' and paranormal experience, which is nothing to scoff at. They know how to debunk, uncover, investigate, and research better than most - with incredibly thorough results. But, I think what makes this show as wonderful and genre-breaking as it is comes from their sense of truly wanting to help families in need. Kindred Spirits is all about healing. It's so refreshing to see a show that's based around charity and true compassion instead of heavy jump-scares and ratings. They dedicate multiple nights of investigations, long-weeks away from family, researching in libraries for hours, and taking every precaution they find necessary to help mend broken families and bring them comfort and closure. At times it can be hard not to be utterly moved to tears watching this show, yet there's a relaxed, down-to-earth feeling that accompanies the episodes making it a fun watch, but still gets the results we all crave from shows of this genre. It's emotional, raw, and it's the biggest breath of fresh air the paranormal television genre has been given in quite some time, and the season is only just beginning. I have to hand it to TLC, it's a very bold move on their part to step away from their normal programming. I am incredibly impressed by the quality and care put into this program and I can't recommend it enough. ![]() Written by Alycia D. Love that Amy and Adam are together again....the show is so honest and heartfelt. Going back to the basics of helping people,,n stead of just looking for paranormal evidence,, makes the show much more interesting to watch. Thanks tlc!
